quite simply, wii games review badly because the majority of them are awful. the wii caters to casuals who don’t look to reviews to choose their game, and thus the bad reviews don’t affect sales. one *can* make a 10 paragraph article about it if they feel the need, but it’s not necessary.

Like I commented in another blog: we don’t really know for sure if these Wii games are really bad, since, as avid gamers, we probably will never play any of these collections of mini-games! Just because the game is a collection of mini-games, it doesn’t make them bad…
On the other hand, buying a collection of mini-games for $20-$50 doesn’t make economic sense: you can get really good and bigger casual games on Xbox LIVE for $10, or for free on the internet. But that still doesn’t make those Wii games bad, they just make them a bad purchase.

They’re bad in comparison. If it costs the same as Galaxy or NMH and doesn’t deliver as much or even close to it, and reviewers think so too, they’re most likely not worth your time or money. Most games are enjoyable if you play long enough to suspend your disbelief. Doesn’t make them good by our standards. Maybe our standards are the problem, but again, price is involved.
I think that them being a bad choice economically makes them a not-as-good game altogether. I’m not one of those people who thinks a game’s price doesn’t factor into the experience of enjoying the game itself. I’m still not over the new $60 pricing format. Back in the day, spending $50 on a SNES game meant that we had no choice but to like it. These days, a wasted 50 bucks is a wasted 50 bucks.
Part of the reason why so many people look to the DS as their system of choice is not only cause of the quality, but $30 is so much easier to swallow than $50 or $60, and usually those games are more competent than a lot of the console stuff. You’re basically paying for technology. Our standards make it difficult to enjoy any of the “shovelware” games on Wii or any other platform, simply cause we have to raise our cost to lower the bar (of quality).
